Cheers to my very first blog post! I have been following blogs for about a year now and with a little inspiration and drive from my friend Lauren, a recent blog starter as well (Recent Romantic) I finally made it happen and I couldn't be happier!
Ever since I was a little girl I have constantly been involved with making art out of junk. I would follow my dad around in his work shop scooping up scrap pieces of wood, plastic, nails, glue, anything I found the tinniest bit interesting. I would disappear into my "craft room" and a few hours later reappear with a fully constructed house furnished down to the tiny fabric pillows and the miniature folded paper envelopes; detail was essential.
As I got older, sitting underneath my dad's work table became difficult I began targeting my design interest towards computer graphics. My first course in graphic design was during high school, it truly struck a match in my heart and I felt ignited to learn more. I completed two years learning and applying my knowledge to various competitions and workshops. As I inched closer and closer to college I turned in a typical confused college freshman and didn't know which career path to choose.
I have always carried a strong passion for art but the jobs choices didn't seem promising. I made multiple pros and con lists juggling back and forth from art, physical therapy, and engineering. They all seemed to hold so many valuable aspects. My first year in college I focused on my gen eds with a little art on the side still unsure where to focus my interests. Last year during the fall I was introduced to the world of advertisement and public relations at Grand Valley's Career Fair. The opportunities and projects the students presented drew me in right away and I couldn't wait to get started. Which leads me to where I am currently, jumping into Ad & PR classes with both feet on the ground. This career change has already opened up so many doors and challenges that allow me to be creative and most importantly be myself.
Thanks for reading my PR story and what brought me to where I am today. I plan to share so much more in the future about my inspiration, desires, and loves in life.
