Those of you who are close with me know that I consume about a jar of peanut butter in a week, it's a must-have item in my food pantry. The classic PB&J sandwich has been a go-to snack, breakfast, lunch, or dinner meal for as long as I can remember. Peanut butter and jelly was the only thing I ever wanted to eat, and the only thing I ever ate. I personally am an open-faced sandwich maker but began experimenting with a variety of PB&J sandwich styles. Check out the variations of ways to prepare your next PB&J and share your favorite below.
Grill It
Any sandwich can be improved with warm, melted peanut butter and a buttery, crispy outside. Lather two pieces of bread with butter, place on frying pan, add peanut butter, flip when golden brown and indulge.
Waffle Iron Sandwich
Extra crispy. Extra melted. Extra good. Waffles for breakfast are a treat in itself but image two waffles filled with a thick layer of peanut butter and jelly topped with fresh fruit and a dusting of powered sugar. Have I sold you yet?
PB&J Sushi
Tiny peanut butter and jelly roll ups. Roll your bread flat and spread PB and jelly, roll up like a little sushi roll, delightful for picnics and snacks to go.
Fruit as Jam
Bananas are just the gateway fruit: Welcome to a brave new sandwich world of color, taste and texture. Try strawberries, blueberries, pomegranates, or kiwi?
PB Stuffed French Toast
This french toast is not only one piece of french toast but two pieces of your favorite french toast bread with peanut butter loaded up in the middle and feel free to add fruit pieces as well. Then dipped in eggs and milk with a dash of vanilla and cinnamon and placed on griddle. The peanut butter oozes out of this french toast the second you dive into them.
PB&J Ice Cream Sandwich
Ice cream is an essential food group in my life so why not pair it up with peanut butter? Two peanut butter cookies, strawberry ice cream, peanut butter chips for topping and you've got yourself a frozen PB&J treat!
Mini Ritz Crackers
The Keebler Toast & Peanut Butter sandwich crackers were a childhood snack, keep the tradition going and make your own! These tiny sandwiches are good for after work out, on the road, or movie time snacks. Try freezing banana slices with peanut butter in the middle for a cool summer snack.
HOT DOG Banana PB&J
I don't think a hot dog smothered in peanut butter would be very appetizing, let me know if I am mistaken so instead place a banana in a hot dog bun drizzle peanut butter and jelly as the condiments. Warm it up if desirable and join the barbeque PB&J style.
PB&J Pizza
A peanut butter and jelly pizza might be the next best thing since sliced bread. Throw the loaf of bread aside and roll out the pizza dough. If you liked the toasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you can attest that the flavor of melted peanut butter and jelly is somehow even better than regular PB&J. Bake crust as normally would, spread PB, drizzle jelly on top and serve up a slice of heaven.
Banana Bread PB&J
My Grandma B makes the most bomb banana bread and provides me with an endless supply - literally I always have it on hand. I enjoy a warm slice of banana bread with a creamy peanut butter spread... it's mouth watering.
Honey Bee
Life is sweet as honey so throw it on top of a sandwich! I've been know to add honey to just about anything lately, from tea, to toast, salad and now my peanut butter. It's the combination of sweet and savory.
PB&J Banana Burrito
We've all been there, that moment when you get home reach for the jar of peanut butter and realize you have no bread... it's devastating. But have no fear this is why I wrote this post to reinvent the peanut butter sandwich and provide peanut butter lovers with alternatives. For this sandwich will be a tortilla wrap with peanut butter and a whole banana, plus I sprinkle a little granola for some extra crunch.
Well what are you waiting for! Grab a jar of peanut butter and jelly and start crafting your ultimate sandwich #PBCreations
