Who doesn't love to travel? Ever since I learned the song about listing all 50 states in elementary school I was determined to visit all 50 at some point in my life. This weekend I have the opportunity to check off my thirteenth state; Texas.
My first week as I jumped in PR, I also jumped into a new job at Grand Valley. I applied for a position with the school newspaper, Grand Valley Lanthorn and landed an internship with the Marketing & Promotions Team. And after a semester I was promoted to Social Media Manager of the Lanthorn! This was an exciting yet challenging venture as I had no previous experience with social media tactics. I took the position head on and began planning new strategies of my own. Through this extraordinary position with the Lanthorn, I have met so many brilliant and innovative students, networked with neighboring businesses, and was given endless opportunities to get involved in the world of advertising.
Today, the Advertisement Team and myself are traveling to Texas to attend a CNBAM Annual Convention (College Newspaper Business & Advertising Managers). Students who are a part of a college newspaper from around the United States attend these conventions to connect and collaborate with other students. Throughout the week, we will be engaging in sessions in a wide range of topics about sales, marketing management, and design topics. I will also be conducting my own roundtable section on 'Social Media: Community Engagement'.
I hope to learn a lot from other students who share the same passion and drive as myself. Check back in for photos and recap of the trip!
