Today marks the beginning of Active Commute Week and National Bike to Work Week in Grand Rapids, Michigan but I am here to encourage everyone across the nation who comes across this blog post to change up your normal commute. During the week, commuters of all ages, occupations and fitness levels are encouraged to make use of active transportation when commuting to work, school or the market. In Grand Rapids the options for safe, sustainable transportation have become increasingly important such as the The Rapid Bus. The use of public transportation provides a high quality of life for a healthy & engaged community.
Participating in this week will save on gas, eliminate emissions, and provide a daily physical activity. So grab a bus, a bike, a long board, a unicycle or a jet pack! Do your thing but make sure to do it without a car. I guarantee there is at least one small change that can be made in your daily commute that can make the slightest difference.
Members close to the Grand Rapids area are welcome to participate in the activities below throughout the week.
Active Commute Week Challenge - May 12-16 - Individuals and employers may track active trips using The Rapid’s West Michigan Rideshare program. Daily drawings feature prizes from local businesses. Details and registration at acwgr.org.
